Biography: Born in Taicang, Jiangsu, China to peasant parents, Qiu Ying studied painting at the Wu School in Suzhou. He painted with the support of wealthy patrons, creating images of flowers, gardens, religious subjects, and landscapes in the fashions of the Ming Dynasty. By copying the works of earlier masters, Qiu Ying incorporated many different techniques and a varied palette to create his popular paintings. His talent and versatility allowed him to be regarded as one of the Four Great Masters of the Ming Dynasty.
