Biography: Bartolomeo Passarotti worked in Rome with architect and then with Taddeo Zuccaro beginning in 1551. He returned to Bologna in 1560 and founded a museum for his antiquities. He also continued to create portraits of popes and cardinals in Rome in his elegant Mannerist style. Passarotti soon became Rome’s leading painter and received commissions for many altarpieces. He also painted genre scenes, often taking place in butcher shops. In addition, he was a talented draftsman and engraver, influenced by Pellegrino and Tibaldi Bolognese.
