Biography: Gerard Horenbout enered the guild of artists and illuminators of Ghent in 1487. He had a workshop that had several apprentices including his three sons. In the early 1500’s, he was commissioned by James IV to produce a book of hours and was named court painter by Margaret of Austria in 1515. In 1522, he moved to England, possibly to escape religious persecution or because of financial reasons. Horenbout was working for the English royal court by 1528.
