Biography: Alexej Harlamoff left his native Russia to move to Paris and begin a career in painting. He attended the Academy of the Fine Arts in Saint Petersburg and admired and copied the work of Rembrandt. While working in Russia, he painted many portraits of the aristocracy. Harlamloff was best remembered for his portraits of children and young girls. He regularly exhibited at the French Salon and won a second-class medal at the Paris Universal Exhibition in 1878.
