Biography:
Although she was born in Sussex, Joan Eardley had a Scottish mother and lived in Scotland from 1940 on. She was taught be James Cowie among others. She spent her time in Glasgow and Catterline, painting scenes from everyday life, notably stormy seas or village subjects. She died from breast cancer in 1963 and requested that her ashes be spread on the beach at Catterline.
