Biography:
Born in Bavaria, Albrecht Altdorfer trained and worked as an architect in his home city of Regensburg. Influenced by Dürer, Altdorfer worked in copperplate etching for sometime before turning to oil painting. He tended to paint religious and historical subjects originally. However, after touring the Alps and Danube river basin, he began specializing in the landscapes that he is famous for.
