Biography:
Hailing from Bologna, Franceso Albani first studied in Denys Calvaert’s studio before enrolling in the Carracci academy. In 1601, he moved to Rome and worked on frescoes. He initially worked as the assistant to Annibale Carracci and Guido Reni, but soon began receiving commissions of his own. Albani returned to Bologna in 1617 and became one the city’s leading painters and teachers. His late work consisted mostly of altarpieces and small pictures of allegorical and mythological subjects.
